Introduction
Baroy is a fourth-class municipality in the province of Lanao del Norte, Philippines. It is formally known as the Municipality of Baroy (Maranao: Inged a Baroy; Cebuano: Lungsod sa Baroy; Tagalog: Bayan ng Baroy). Its population, as of the 2020 census, is 24,683 people.
History
Baroy changed its name to Baroy in 1918 after the native plant that was used to weave mats went extinct. The town had previously been known as Baloy. Prior to its incorporation as a municipality on June 10, 1949, under Executive Order No. 222 issued under President Elpidio L. Quirino's administration, it was a Kolambugan barrio. Later, on January 13, 1960, Salvador was divided by Executive Order No. 370. Every year on June 10th, Baroy celebrates the Lechon Festival.
